Plenaries GSW2017

Opening Plenary

Monday May 22nd 10-12HrsAn integrative perspective across the SDGs: how land and soils will contribute to eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity

Focus

This plenary will aim to come to a joint understanding of the value of holding an event such as the Global Soil Week as a preparatory/relevant event for the High Level Political Forum (HLPF). It will make the case for an integrated perspective across the Sustainable Development Goals by addressing the multiple linkages between the different SDGs and across countries. The Global Soil Week as a whole will aim to produce a set of policy messages to be put forward for the consideration of the HLPF in July when the SDGs are reviewed (several of the countries represented in this plenary will be presenting a National Voluntary Review in this year’s HLPF). The messages emerging from the Global Soil Week should highlight soil and land related issues (relevant to the SDGs being reviewed at the HLPF) which could be given more attention in national implementation of the SDGs and propose strategies or priority areas to ensure these resources contribute to promoting prosperity and ending poverty.
