Événement parallèle officiel au FPHN sur « Les sols…

As was shown during GSW 2017, by looking at a sub-set of goals from the perspective of soils and land, thematic reviews can provide a tool for an integrated implementation of the SDGs. The GSW 2017 produced a set of policy messages on sustainable soil management and responsible land governance that were deemed essential for “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world.” Outcomes also include a report which reflects on the review exercise, knowledge exchange and communication methodologies applied during the event. These outcomes will be presented and discussed at the Side Event. Additionally, a plan to conduct a similar exercise on the topic of Nutrition ahead of the HLPF 2019 will be discussed in order to build partnerships and gain insights from other platforms aiming to conduct similar exercises.

This high-level side event will invite representatives from Member States, UN Organizations, ministries, science and academia, civil society and the private sector to discuss a proposal for the framing and setting-up of integrated, inclusive and participatory thematic reviews in support of the HLPF. Bringing these various perspectives together and navigating the complexity of an integrated implementation of the 2030 Agenda is a time intensive and complex undertaking. The HLPF could therefore benefit from knowledge gained at GSW 2017 and similar preparatory events that focus on specific themes of a thematic review. The discussions at the Side Event will be relevant for all SDGs being reviewed in depth in 2017 and especially for SDG 2 on ending hunger, achieving food security and improved nutrition, and promoting sustainable agriculture.
