Please note that the Global Soil Week 2017 will be a closed event and participation is by invitation only.
In what language will the conference be held?
The conference will be held in English. We will however also have simultaneous French translations during the plenaries, the lab and for workshop 1. Please note that the other two workshops will be held in English.
How can I participate in the Global Soil Week?
In a break with tradition from previous Global Soil Weeks GSW 2017 will be a closed event where participation will be by invitation only. If you are interested in contributing to one of the workshops please get in touch with the facilitators directly. More information on the workshops can be found here.
I organized a workshop at a previous Global Soil Week. Can I do this again this year?
This opportunity does not exist this year. There will be the three workshops and the LAB as outlined here.
When does registration begin?
Registration begins on the 10th of April and ends on the 2nd of May. Invited participants will receive a registration link via email.
How do I register?
If you have been invited to the GSW 2017 we will send you a registration link via email in early April. Once you have received this email please click on the link, fill in the requested information and choose the sessions you would like to attend or participate in.
I can only attend the Conference for a limited number of days. Is that possible?
Yes, just click on the workshops and/or plenaries you are able to attend.
Do I have to pay a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee.
I have been invited to participate in the Global Soil week 2017 but I do not have the funding to do so. Will the Global Soil Week be able to provide funding?
Unfortunately not. We would actively encourage participants to seek financial support from other sources.
Could you help me with finding a good hotel close to the venue?
Participants are invited to visit the conference venue website, Scandic Hotel and book a room. If rooms are no longer available at the Scandic they are several other hotels in the vicinty:

• Grimm’s Hotel Potsdamer Platz (500 m)
• Hotel Novotel Suites Berlin City Potsdamer Platz (700 m)
• Hotel Motel One Berlin Potsdamer Platz (850 m)
Can the Global Soil Week 2017 hosts issue a Letter of Invitation for my VISA application?
Yes, please write to GlobalSoilWeek@iass-potsdam.de giving your full name (as it appears in your passport), your address and your intended travel dates, i.e. exact arrival and departure dates.

Will I have access to the List of participants to the Conference?

How much does the public transportation system cost and how can I get additional information about it?
This depends on the route to be taken. You will need a single ticket for any journey from the Berlin airports or train stations to the conference venue. Fares from Schönefeld airport (SXF) are 3,40 EUR and from Tegel airport (TXL) 2,80 EUR.
How do I get to the venue?
The closest underground station is Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park (line U2). However, Potsdamer Platz station is also very close (lines U2, S1, S2, S25). If you would like additional information on the local transportation system please visit the following website: BVG
What is the climate in Berlin like?
The weather in Berlin at this time of the year is usually mild and temperatures can range from between 12 and 25 degrees Celsius. The weather is changeable so we recommend that you bring both warm and light clothing. Packing a waterproof jacket or raincoat is also advisable.
